Top EMC storage executive David Donatelli has abruptly left the company to join rival HP as executive vice president for enterprise servers, storage and networking, HP announced yesterday.

Donatelli, who was president of EMC's Storage Division, will take over his new position at HP effective 5 May, and will report to Ann Livermore, executive vice president of the Technology Solutions Group at HP.

In his new duties, Donatelli will be in charge of HP's Business Critical Systems, Industry Standard Servers, StorageWorks, ESS Infrastructure Software and Blades products, HP said. He will also be taking over HP ProCurve Networking business. Marius Haas, senior vice president and worldwide general manager of HP ProCurve, will report to Donatelli.

Donatelli replaces Scott Stallard, who is retiring after 34 years at HP.
