IP networking carrier Orange Business Services has turned on IPv6 in its IP VPN backbone and the service is now available in 35 countries, including Australia.
IPv6 is part of Orange's innovation strategy of to be a "future-proof provider".
Orange claims to be the first global service provider to offer IPv6 on the managed IP VPN global market.
The service will be extended to more than 100 other countries by the beginning of 2010.
Managing director of Orange Business Services in Australia and New Zealand, Tim Cavill, said with IPv6 customers will have access to the next generation of Internet technology.
"With no shortage of IP addresses, this technology will enable a new breed of applications that enhance business communications," he said.
"Orange Business Services is already working with its customers to ensure they are prepared for the eventual move to IPv6."
Orange cites four reasons for pushing IPv6 out to customers: applications that require many end-point connections; more efficient, simpler addressing; investment protection against any depreciation in IPv4 addressing; and the adoption of the technology internationally.
