An 18-year-old 12th-grade student was arrested in Vancouver, B.C. for allegedly posting a "hit list" of 117 names on his Facebook page.
The student was arrested May 29 at his home where, according to Inspector Scott Thompson, police seized a shotgun, ammunition, a machete, a sword, a knife and two collapsible metal batons. Police also seized a computer.
Officials aren't releasing the man's name, noting that some of the actions under investigation occurred when he was a minor.
The Templeton High School student faces seven firearms-related charges and is being held in custody.
The Vancouver Police Department said in a statement that several Templeton High School students approached them last week after seeing the alleged hit list on Facebook. Thompson, who is with the Vancouver Police Department, said interviews are still being done and more charges could be filed.
Of the 117 names on the supposed hit list, 71 are staff members and students at Templeton High School, which is in Vancouver.
"This is a very disturbing incident for the Templeton High School community, the students and the staff, and everyone involved," the police said in an online statement. "In our experience, this is the most serious incident of its type the Vancouver Police Department has dealt with.... With the young man now in custody and the seizure of the firearm and other weapons, we can reassure the public that there are no immediate concerns for the safety of staff and students at the school and others identified through this investigation."
