Optus has announced it will offer Apple's new iPhone 3G S smartphone from June 26.
The telco has started accepting details for updates on the device, including when it will be available in store, on its iPhone Web site at: www.optus.com.au/iphoneinfo.
Optus already offers the iPhone 3G 8GB and 16GB models on its network with bundled voice and data services.
Announced at Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference this week, the iPhone 3G S is "the fastest iPhone ever", according to Apple, and is twice as fast as its predecessor, the iPhone 3G.
Other enhancements include video capture and editing functionality, a new three megapixel camera, voice controls, a digital compass, PC-like "cut, copy and paste", an Internet tethering, which allows the iPhone to be used as a USB modem.
Apple has also made available a beta iPhone SDK for the iPhone OS 3.0 which includes new APIs and developer tools.
With the new SDK developers can add new features like in-app purchases, peer-to-peer connection via Bluetooth, communication with hardware accessories, and alerts using Apple Push Notification service, according to Apple.
