Mellanox Technologies, a maker of InfiniBand switches for data centers, is now shipping a large-scale switch and software suite for fabric management.

The IS5000 switch line scales from 36 40Gbps InfiniBand ports to 648 ports in a single enclosure. The IS5000 provides 2.9 to 51.8Tbps of non-blocking bandwidth across the 648 ports and can be used to build networks consisting of tens of thousands of servers and storage nodes, Mellanox says.

The switch supports adaptive routing, port mirroring, end-to-end congestion management and subnet partitioning. Connectivity to Ethernet LANs and FibreChannel SANs is via the integrated BridgeX gateways of the IS5000.

The management software suite is called FabricIT. It is designed to monitor the performance, quality of service, and real-time application adaptation operations of Mellanox switches and switch clusters. It also performs hardware configuration and monitoring, including CPU, memory and file management resource utilization, port management, and temperature and voltage status. Additional tools support cluster install, activation and updates.

The IS5000 and FabricIT will compete with Voltaire’s Grid Director 4700 switch and Unified Fabric Manager software. Pricing for the IS5000 was not disclosed.
