Customers not put off by upgrade costs

Apple has revealed that it sold more than a million iPhone 3G S handsets over the weekend, despite the high cost of upgrading from previous models of the smartphone.

The figure exceeds that predicted by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, who told PC Advisor's sister title Macworld that he thought 500,000 handsets would be sold.

Apple also revealed that six million customers downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 software in the first five days since its release.

Apple also revealed that six million customers downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 software in the first five days since its release.

"Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO.

"With over 50,000 applications available from Apple's revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever."
