The new HTC Hero smartphone is now available for pre-order on Amazon UK.

Announced last week, the HTC Hero is a Google Android-based handset featuring a revamped user interface and an angled body that's designed to fit more comfortably against the side of the face.

It's available for pre-order for £429.99 although is due to become available on a contract from both Orange and T-Mobile during July, according to HTC.

However, there's some confusion about the availability of the HTC Hero. Pocket-Lint says Orange sales reps claim the Hero won't be available until August, while T-Mobile has no confirmed launch date.
