Canon U.S.A. on Tuesday introduced new models of its ImageCLASS laser printers, along with new Pixma inkjet and Selphy dye-sub printers. All are Mac and PC-compatible.
The ImageClass MF8050Cn and MF8350Cdn are two new multifunction color laser printers expected to go on sale in September, 2009 for $499 and $699 respectively. Both printers feature Ethernet and USB 2.0 interfaces. The MF8350Cdn prints at up to 21 pages per minute in color and black and white, and can handle two-sided printing, copying and faxing. The MF8050Cn prints at up to eight pages per minute in color and 12 pages in black and white; it features a 5-line LCD display with animation to help users follow on-screen instructions.
The Pixma MP560 is a new all-in-one inkjet printer that supports Wi-Fi 802.11b and g protocols. It can print out pictures from USB flash memory devices, supports PictBridge-compatible cameras and has five individual ink tanks and a 2.0-inch LCD screen. It can output 9.2 inches per minute for back and white documents and 6.0 inches per minute for color, and costs $150. It also sports auto-duplex (two-sided) printing.
The Pixma MP490 is another all-in-one unit with four-color inks; it can print out a 4 x 6 inch photo in about 43 seconds. It has a 1.8-inch LCD screen and a self-opening output tray; it works using USB 2.0. It costs $100.
The Selphy CP790 is Canon's newest compact photo printer. The dye-sub printer costs $180, and also has available an $80 battery pack that lets you use it away from a wall outlet. It features a 3.0-inch LCD display and can print a 4 x 6 inch photo in 43 seconds.
