Qwest Wireless customers were told Tuesday that they have two months to switch their service to Verizon before their own service ends.
The switch from legacy Qwest Wireless services to Verizon has been in the works since last year when the company signed a five-year deal to make Verizon its official wireless carrier. That agreement gave Qwest's broadband, video and voice customers access to Verizon Wireless handsets, smartphones and BlackBerry devices. Additionally, Qwest customers are able to use Verizon's wireless broadband services for their e-mail and Internet access.
However, not all of Qwest's wireless customers have migrated over to Verizon Wireless. Some have stayed on with the Qwest Wireless network that had been offered in conjunction with Sprint.
Qwest says any wireless customers who switch to Verizon by the end of October can do so free of charge and can keep their current phone numbers. The company also plans to remind customers to make the switch over the next two months by routing their calls from the legacy network to a service representative who will give them options for switching services.
Qwest, a telecom carrier and ISP, offers Internet, phone and digital cable television services primarily in Western and Midwestern states.
