Adobe Responds To Snow Leopard CS3 Compatibility Claims

Adobe has responded to various claims that their Creative Suite 3 software bundle may be incompatible with Apple's upcoming Snow Leopard operating system.

The company recently released a detailed Q-and-A PDF that details the compatibility of its various software offerings with the new version of OS X.

The PDF discloses that after conducting a series of tests, Creative Suite 4, the latest version of Adobe's design software package, works on Snow Leopard without the need for any updates, with only a few minor issues in place.

But it wasn't clear whether the older CS3 package would work on Snow Leopard. Adobe simply stated in the Q-and-A that "Older versions of Adobe creative software were not included in our testing efforts." Following that quote a number of sites instinctively believed that this meant that CS3 software would not function on Snow Leopard.

Adobe have since updated their original blog post, to offer some clarification on the issue. John Nack states, "No one said anything about CS3 being 'not supported' on Snow Leopard. The plan, however, is not to take resources away from other efforts (e.g. porting Photoshop to Cocoa) in order to modify 2.5-year-old software in response to changes Apple makes in the OS foundation."

Adobe still has not said outright whether or not CS3 will work, but users can find out for themselves come Friday when Snow Leopard hits stores.
