Vodafone said Thursday that it is getting set to launch Novatel's mobile hotspot, the MiFi, in Europe.
The device will initially be available in Germany, Romania and Spain. Pricing and availability in other countries wasn't announced.
The mobile broadband hotspot is a credit-card sized product that lets subscribers connect to it using any device that supports Wi-Fi, then connect to the Internet using HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) at up to 7.2 Mbps (bits per second) on the downlink and 5.7 Mbps on the uplink.
Up to five devices within a 10-meter radius can connect to the hotspot. An internal battery provides up to four hours of active use on a single charge. The mobile hotspot can also be used to share content stored on an microSD card over Wi-Fi.
The MiFi device is already sold by MobileOne in Singapore, Sprint and Verizon in the U.S.
