Kotaku has caught a glimpse of the latest issue of long-standing Japanese video game magazine Famitsu, which contains a review
for the PlayStation 3 version of the latest chapter of Square-Enix's popular RPG franchise, Final Fantasy XIII. The game received
a perfect 10 from three of its four reviewers, but one critic, citing story complaints, gave the game a nine, giving the game
an overall score of 39/40.
Famitsu has generally been stingy with perfect scores, offering only six perfect scores in its first 20 years of existence.
Over the past two years, though, the game has given seven games perfect marks. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Japan-exclusive 428: Fusa Sareta Shibuya de received 40/40 scores in 2008; and Dragon Quest IX, Monster Hunter Tri,
New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and the Xbox 360 version of Bayonetta notched perfect scores this year.
Final Fantasy XIII will be coming to the US on March 9, 2010 for the PS3, as well as the Xbox 360, the latter of which has
yet to be reviewed for any outlet. Might Avatar chocobos be the key to perfection?
