Highlights of the Week 02/01 -- 02/05

Big news... Fallout: New Vegas gets a release date (sort of)We'd been waiting around to hear more about Bethesda Softworks and Obsidian Entertainment's Fallout 3 non-sequel, Fallout: New Vegas. Not only did they do us the honor of announcing a release window, but the launched a website, and dropped a sweet batch of screen shots in our lap with a trailer. The new game hits PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in fall 2010.

FYI... BioShock 2 Primer gears you up for the sequelEverybody and their mother knew BioShock 2 was hitting shelves this month. But not everybody -- especially not their mother -- knows enough about BioShock to be completely ready for the plot twists and character development that blow your mind in BioShock 2. Our handy-dandy primer gets you up to speed before sending you off to play one of the biggest sequels of 2010.

Not-so-big news... Super Bowl XLIV's halftime show playable in Rock Band (after the game), Madden NFL calls it for the SaintsSuper Bowl Sunday has everybody interested to know if the New Orleans Saints can pull off a win over the Indianapolis Colts. EA's Madden NFL simulation certainly think they can, and rather than take sides, Rock Band instead plans to offer The Who's halftime show on the Rock Band store after the game.

Happy Birthday, The Sims! The Sims franchise turns 10 and this reporter takes a moment to reflect on a decade of gameplay evolution that brought her maniacal overpopulation schemes to where they are today.

Here We Go Again (Again)... Sonic 4, Episode 1 announced Sonic goes episodic for his fourth game coming to Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and WiiWare in summer 2010.

Crunching Numbers... Earnings calls from THQ, Sony, Sega, and Warner Bros. InteractiveTHQ, Sony, Sega, and Warner Bros. Interactive all had earnings reports on the third financial quarter this week. The most exciting news out of all of it were sequel announcements for THQ's de Blog and Red Faction games.

WTF... "Natural Sword Enhancement?!" Atlus sent over this 3 Dot Game Heroes trailer that almost wound up in our spam filter for its obvious penis enlargement references. Good thing we got the joke.
