EA recently concluded its quarterly investor conference call, revealing its performance for the final three months of 2009, as well as its outlook for the first quarter of 2010, as well as the entire 2011 fiscal year (which runs from April 2010 to March 2011). Along with its financial results, the company revealed a tentative release slate the next twelve months. The company's official press release is located here.
While the company was proud to tout some of its accomplishments during the last three quarters, including becoming the number one publisher on Sony consoles and the PC, and the breakout success of Dragon Age, the company expects lower revenues for the fiscal year ending in March, as well as the first quarter of 2010, both owing the lower returns due to the shift away from retail-sold products. However, the predictions for the next fiscal year, running from April 2010 to March 2011, are expected to beat this financial year.
The company laid out its upcoming games for the fiscal year, with additional tidbits about the titles being revealed during the call. Some of the highlights include a browser-based open-world Need for Speed game during the next financial quarter, EA Sports Active coming to other consoles besides the Wii during the next holiday season, and what EA COO John Schappert said would be "something far-reaching for Mass Effect." EA CEO John Riccitiello stated that while the company would support Project Natal and Sony's motion controller at launch, they couldn't specify which titles would use the products, only stating that the releases were included in this year's titles, which may serve as a reasoning two back-to-back quarters with Need For Speed releases. Additionally, no Rock Band titles are included, as EA is currently renegotiating its contract with Viacom for the franchise.
