While there's no shortage of modern military shooters available on consoles today, the Call of Duties and Medal of Honors of the world are, for the most part, usually highly-priced and disc-based. Gamers hoping to enjoy first-person shooting action without waiting or breaking the bank may want to seek out the newly-announced Blacklight: Tango Down when it releases on the PC, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade this summer.

Blacklight: Tango Down is being published by Ignition Entertainment and developed by Zombie Inc. (the creators of the Saw video game) using Unreal Engine 3. The game's announcement includes a laundry list of modern FPS features, including a "near-future setting," "modern sci-fi lighting" and "incredibly deep customization features" including weapon and character upgrades. A standard suite of multiplayer modes have been announced like Deathmatch and Control Point, with other modes to be announced in the coming months.

The FPS landscape on downloadable services remains pretty barren at this point, with Battlefield 1943 being able to capitalize on the niche. We'll see if Blacklight can capture the same lightning in a bottle over the next few months. In the meantime, check out the first screens for the game. What do you think of the look of the game? How much would you pay for it?
