Despite running successful shows from 2004-2009, a lack of attendees has forced the creators of the Women in Games Conference
to cancel this year's show, which was to be held next weekend.
While it's not the type of show that would ever push the GDC, E3, or the Toyko Game Show off of any calendars, the Women in
Games Conference was a yearly fixture in the UK, allowing frank discussion about the role of women in video game development
and examining how to expand the female gaming audience. In 2010, however, the show will not be taking place, as an announcement
on the conference's official website states "We are very sorry to announce that this year?s Women in Games Conference has been canceled due to low delegate numbers."
While the two shows obviously cull different crowds and take place in two very different places, this year's Women in Games
Conference probably wasn't benefiting by being scheduled for same weekend as the premiere of the east coast iteration of the
Penny Arcade Expo. Thankfully, this year's cancellation doesn't look like it will deter future Women in Games Conferences,
as the show's website is currently advertising a survey that will affect "how the conference might take shape in the future."
