Apple takes 10,000 iPad pre-orders a day online, suggesting it's on its way to 200,000 in the first week

Apple fans in the US have been pre-ordering the iPad for a week and it looks like Apple will have sold 200,000 by the end of today.

Daniel Tello, an analyst blogger, has been tracking order numbers for the iPad since 12 March. He has been analysing how many iPads are being pre-ordered and estimating how many will sell based on these orders.

Tello recently claimed that over 120,000 iPad pre-orders had been made on the day the iPad was released.

Apple fans in the US have been pre-ordering the iPad for a week and it looks like Apple will have sold 200,000 by the end of today.

Daniel Tello, an analyst blogger, has been tracking order numbers for the iPad since 12 March. He has been analysing how many iPads are being pre-ordered and estimating how many will sell based on these orders.

Tello recently claimed that over 120,000 iPad pre-orders had been made on the day the iPad was released.

Tello has also estimated that by the second week of the iPad release, Apple will have taken approximately one million iPad pre-orders.

His research shows that the iPad pre-orders are averaging at 10,000 a day, which means by the time the iPad has been on sale a week, Apple should have taken 200,000 iPad pre-orders. "I think sometime during Friday, perhaps before noon, the counter should roll to 200,000 units pre-ordered," Tello told Fortune.

The results produced by Tello, do not include the figures for people pre-ordering the iPad for pick up in Apple Stores on 3 April. Although, according to a report from BoyGeniusReport, Apple's 222 stores in the US took around 700 reservations for in-store pick-up in the first 72 hours of the release. Suggesting approximately 1,633 sales may have been made in store in the first week.

So, rather than the 200,000 iPad pre-orders predicted for the first week, based on online sales, if the in-store reservations are included as well, Apple could be looking at 201,633 iPads sold in the first week.

Unfortunately Apple will not be able to meet demand for iPad accessories. The company has moved back shipping dates of its own case and keyboard dock to May.

Tello and his colleagues continue to track how many iPads are being sold.
