Namco Bandai has announced a new title in its flight combat franchise in the form of Ace Combat Assault Horizon, due in 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game, which will be the first to land on the PS3, is being dubbed a 'rebirth' by the game's developers.
The first Ace Combat game to land on an HD console since 2007's Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, Assault Horizon will likely be a different flight than the six console and four portable games in the franchise that preceded it, if the developer's boasts are to be believed. "This is a rebirth of the Ace Combat series, and a chance for us to take the series in a completely new direction," Project Aces Producer Kazutoki Kono said in the announcement. "We're confident that we're going to create a new kind of action shooting (high-speed and destruction) experience with Ace Combat Assault Horizon."
Without hands-on time, we can't yet corroborate Kono's claims, but the initial screens and video released for the game can serve as a first impression. What do you think of Assault Horizon's look? Do you think it'll change the flight combat genre?
