Networking has become just too darn cool. A couple of years ago, decisions were tough enough, what with migration issues, bandwidth concerns and trying to dope out which vendors were going to be around for the long haul. But today, everybody in your life has their own angle on networking - from the bosses' (quite possibly mistaken) notions about the Internet to your spouse's view on Microsoft. And everybody just knows you should move to a VPN, even if only three people on the planet really know what a VPN is.

That's where our second annual Buzz issue comes in. Whether it's policy management, Java in the enterprise, Layer 3 switching or voice over IP, we've peeled back the onion to find out exactly where these trends are coming from - and what they really mean to the enterprise. Beyond slicing through the hype around 11 specific technologies, we'll also show you how to recognize the telltale signs of networking nonsense - handy for those visits to the trade-show floor. Plus, we've set up an online forum: What are the most overhyped technologies you've seen - and what are your strategies for getting to the heart of things?
