What can we say? WorldCom proved to be THE company to watch in 1997.

While no one, outside of perhaps WorldCom CEO Bernie Ebbers, was prepared for the carrier's epic buying spree, WorldCom watchers have known for a while that this company has big ambitions.

Who knows if he was joking when he said at the initial MCI-WorldCom press conference that "AT&T was our first choice''?

The trick now is for WorldCom to integrate the host of local, Internet and long-distance facilities it has acquired.
