As autumn gets underway, a slew of WAN optimization and application acceleration vendors are sharing product and business news. Here’s a recap of a few recent announcements.

Riverbed, ManageEngine partner

When vendors with complementary technologies get together, customers who use (or are considering using) both partners’ products are the ones who benefit most. In this case, ManageEngine is newly allied with Riverbed Technology.

ManageEngine brings to the table its traffic analysis and network forensics application, NetFlow Analyzer, which can share bandwidth usage data with Riverbed’s Steelhead appliances. Riverbed’s appliances can then use the WAN traffic data from ManageEngine’s software to optimize available bandwidth and speed applications.

“We can now quickly and easily identify the root cause of many network issues, resolve bandwidth utilization problems, and track long term trends. We can also do application monitoring and IP monitoring to ensure quality of business critical applications like MS Exchange and SAP,” said George Caraker, manager of IT operations at Kennedy/Jenks Consultants, in a statement.

Allot unveils high-end traffic management device

Allot Communications launched the newest addition to its lineup of traffic-management devices, the NetEnforcer AC-5000. Aimed at the high end, the AC-5000 can deliver 10Gbps throughout in a 3U format. It’s compatible with either 1GbE and 10GbE network infrastructure, and the technology can identify hundreds of Internet protocols and apps for policy enforcement, Allot says.

"High-end enterprise networks share all the complexities of both traditional enterprise networks and service provider networks, servicing multiple types of users and running multiple types of applications," says Allot VP Andrei Elefant. "The NetEnforcer AC-5000 is designed to answer their need for greater throughput, interfaces and features, while ensuring consistently high performance levels and superior user quality of experience.”

New name for Nokeena

Unforeseen trademark issues led to a name change for Nokeena Networks, a Santa Clara, Calif., start-up that provides infrastructure software for serving up television-quality video content. The new name is Ankeena Networks, a moniker taken from the Hindi word for “eyes.” The new name “continues in the same tradition of the original company name in providing a theme of vision and sight, appropriate for a media delivery infrastructure company,” Ankeena says.
