Today, we highlight three product-related announcements made recently: Avaya has announced DiVitas is their preferred partner for Dual Mode Mobile Unified Communications; Polycom launched its VVX 1500, a business media phone that combines a personal video conferencing system with VoIP; and Zer01 Mobile is soon debuting as a new mobile service provider offering a $69.95 unlimited data and VoIP-based domestic calling bundle.

In the first announcement, Avaya has announced DiVitas is their preferred partner for Dual Mode Mobile Unified Communications, so new releases of Avaya Communication Manager and the DiVitas Mobile UC Solution will be designed to work as if they were a single-vendor solution; the two companies are also committed to joint testing and quality assurance. In a second announcement, the companies also said they have now integrated DiVitas with Avaya Modular Messaging with a feature package of call answering, voice messaging, and speech capabilities. Existing Modular Messaging customers can now manage native Avaya voicemail with the DiVitas Client.

In other news, Polycom introduced its first business media phone, the Polycom VVX™ 1500. The device combines a personal video conferencing system Polycom HD Voice, an open API and microbrowser for real-time personalized Web content, and integration with key business applications.

BroadSoft a long-time Polycom partner was integral in bringing the VVX 1500 to market. The device features include: the ability to initiate voice and video calls using a touch screen; Polycom's voice and visual communication solutions; low power consumption and Power over Ethernet (PoE); the Polycom Productivity Suite; and a free Web service called My Info Portal with content like local weather reports and other personalized information.

Finally, a new mobile service provider is set to debut in April at CTIA: Zer01 Mobile is soliciting trial customers to test its service. According to numerous reports, the service will use VoIP to economize, allowing the company to offer unlimited data and domestic VoIP calls for $69.95 a month; unlimited international calling plans are $79.95 a month.
