Paradoxically, NetWare network managers may be more prepared for Windows 2000 than Windows NT network managers. Active Directory - while introducing many new and different concepts - bares more relationship to NDS than it does to NT domains (although the terminology is a curious mix of both). Planning and preparation are very important if you want an installation of Windows 2000 to go smoothly and for the operating system to continue to operate smoothly over time.
Fortunately, Microsoft offers a number of free, online training sessions and seminars to help you begin to get up to speed on Active Directory. Among these are:
- Windows 2000: Active Directory Disaster Recovery
- Designing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services Infrastructure-Course Sample
- Windows 2000 Security and Directory Overview
- How to Deploy a Windows 2000 Active Directory in Your Organization
- Domain Migration Strategies and Windows 2000
- Active Directory Replication (Part 1)
- Active Directory Replication (Part 2)
- Active Directory Database Sizing and Traffic Analysis
At some point, no matter what you see in your future, you'll need at least a basic understanding of Active Directory. Start preparing now.
