If you didn't make it to Salt Lake City for Novell's BrainShare conference last week, you can still partake of the directory services expertise doled out (and avoid all the marketing fluff) by stopping by Novell's DeveloperNet University using any Web browser.
From complete, code-level courses on NDS programming to useful task examples, DeveloperNet University provides you with the education and training you need to build real-world directory-based applications.
Currently available is a full tutorial on building a "white pages" application, which allows users to browse and search for employees in a company, view their pictures, and obtain phone numbers, titles, and so on. Actually, there are five tutorials available, for building the white pages application using five different languages or methods:
- Programming NDS in C with Lightweight Directory Access Protocol.
- Programming NDS with NetWare Loadable Modules.
- Programming NDS with C NDAP.
- Programming NDS with Java Naming and Directory Interface.
- Programming NDS with Beans.
If you already understand programming to a directory, you can simply download the source code from the library, or get the source code with a short discussion in the laboratory.
All of it is free, and all of it is useful.
