SAFLINK recently announced the availability of its SAF2000 Enterprise Security Suite which can be used to integrate multiple biometrics with smart cards, public-key infrastructure (PKI) and widely deployed directory services, such as Novell Directory Service (NDS) and Microsoft Active Directory (AD).
The individual security applications included in the SAF2000 suite are mature products that have been enhanced with new features to provide greater flexibility in network configurations and a broader choice of user authentication options, including smart cards and PKI.
The suite is supported on Windows NT servers, using current API standards for the interoperability and interchangeability of biometric technologies. SAF2000 is network centric, so a variety of client configurations should be able to securely communicate with a SAFserver for centralized administration of user credentials and the biometric authentication process.
The SAF architecture supports a range of the company's applications, including:
- SAF/nt for Windows NT domains with Windows 95/98 and NT clients.
- SAF/iis for Microsoft Internet Information Server with Microsoft Internet Explorer clients.
- SAF/netware for Novell based networks with Windows 95/98 and NT clients.
- SAF/tng for Unicenter TNG and its Single Sign-on with Windows 95/98 and NT clients.
- SAFtransactions for custom biometric applications.
- SAF/entrust for biometric logon to Entrust's PKI products with Windows 95/98 and NT clients.
These applications are implemented as an integrated pack and added to the network infrastructure of Windows NT (and Windows 2000, when it ships) and Novell NetWare. All biometric related operations are performed through extensions to existing native networking and administrative functions, which is said to reduce implementation time and simplify end-user support.
SAF2000 comes with built-in voice, fingerprint and facial recognition biometric software algorithms that are qualified for use with a variety of Microsoft compatible audio/video and fingerprint scanner peripherals from technology providers.
