Senior Writer Jon Brodkin discusses IT career and education trends and issues.
Browsing the online pages of NetworkWorld.com could net you a job. NetworkWorld.com last week launched a job search facility in our Networking Careers Research Center.
If you haven't visited the Careers Research Center yet, here's your chance - it's edited by my colleague Network World Senior Managing Editor, Features Amy Schurr, who also writes the weekly IT Leadership newsletter. At the Research Center, you'll find articles related to staff management and business strategies, plus a salary calculator for IT execs. And now, the online search facility.
The search engine is powered by Indeed, and aggregates job listings from major job boards - including Monster, Robert Half, Craigslist and HotJobs - newspapers, associations, niche sites and company career pages. All you need to do is enter the kind of job you're looking for - either by job title, keywords or desired employer - and then the city, state or zip, and the engine does the rest.
I tested it out by entering "network engineer" in Columbus, Ohio and I got back 180 results, which I was able to sort by relevance or date. As well as telling you how long ago a job was posted, the engine tells you at which site the job is posted and of course, a link to the originating site. Jobs are also returned within 25 miles of the location you specify.
Job listings are continuously monitored by Indeed so you'll get up-to-date results. I hope you'll try it out and let me know what you think. Good luck!
While you're at NetworkWorld.com, I want to steer you to a package of stories about the Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) lab exam, written by Network World Senior Editor Carolyn Duffy Marsan. The stories tell of why one high-flying CCIE described the Cisco networking exam as more stressful than getting his pilot's license, and explains why the CCIE exam is harder to pass than the State Bar of California or the Certified Public Accounting exam. Check out the package of articles here and then have your say in our CCIE forum.
