Given the interesting financial times in which we have found ourselves over the past couple of months, it's a sure bet that governance will be one of those terms that IT and business alike will have on their short list of concerns over the next few years in the context of messaging, collaboration and data management. One company addressing these concerns is Thru.

The company offers both an on-premise and a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that can help organizations become more compliant with regulations and their own best practices. For example, the Thru Message File System offers messaging security in addition to the creation of retention rules, as well as logging, notification tools and reporting capabilities to help organizations manage the flow of their information.

The company’s Certified Delivery Engine assigns tracking numbers to inbound and outbound file transfers that, among other things, require people to actively accept disclaimers before downloading content, as well as providing encryption and tracking for this content. The Thru Secure Communication Network is a SaaS offering that provides secure file transfer services, content archiving and other capabilities through multiple SAS 70 Type II-certified data centers.

Thru is but one of many companies focused on governance, a market that we expect will grow substantially as a result of expected tightening government regulation of the financial services market and the business market in general. This will create significant demand for products, services and consulting focused on creating good corporate governance mechanisms, much like we saw in the years following the implementation of Sarbanes-Oxley and as we continue to see today.
