The workforce is becoming increasingly mobile, and in many cases, that doesn’t exclude IT managers. More now than ever IT managers are expected to stay on top of service levels – even if their daily tasks take them away from the environment they manage.

IT management applications you can operate from an iPhone

That’s why AlarmPoint Systems teamed with HP to enable the two vendors’ customers to tap HP Service Manager from any Web-enabled smartphone, thanks to applications from AlarmPoint. The two vendors have paired up before to integrate products and the latest collaboration has AlarmPoint Express and Mobile Gateway 4.0 products integrated with HP Service Manager 7.11.

The integration enables IT managers to access the service management application from anywhere, HP executives say, which helps IT streamline service management and implement best practices such as those laid out in ITIL.

“This integration helps HP provide a solution that is applicable to multiple IT functions. That way the right people can get started on the right jobs at the right time to ensure IT service delivery,” says David Flesh, director of product marketing of HP IT services management.

By integrating AlarmPoint’s alert management technology into HP software, the companies say they can enable customers to more quickly perform incident and change management tasks. The software bundle lets customers create role-specific interfaces that enable the delivery of targeted information to specific IT personnel, which speeds problem resolution to avoid service degradation impacting end users or customers. IT managers can use mobile devices to view information, approve and reject changes as well as view, annotate, change, escalate and resolve IT issues, while the data is being updated in real time with HP Service Manager, according to AlarmPoint.

“This is more than getting alerts on mobile devices. IT managers with the integration into our Mobile Gateway product can also take action from any Web-enabled smartphone,” says Christel Mes, director of marketing at AlarmPoint.
