Last August in this space I hailed the release of Entevo's DirectAdmin 1.0, the first Active Directory Services Interface (ADSI) compliant management suite for Windows NT. Many people agreed that Entevo's "Virtual Directory" approach to managing NT domains was a winner, and they showed it by buying the product.

Version 2.0 has now been released as part of a new set of applications called the DirectManage suite, which includes DirectAdmin for NDS and DirectMigrate for NDS along with the award winning DirectAdmin for Windows NT.

DirectAdmin is built on Entevo's DirectMap "virtual directory" technology, a repository of mappings to various directories universally accessible through ADSI allowing hierarchical OU based domain administration today while planning for future migration to Windows 2000. DirectAdmin 2.0 enables granular, role-based delegation that allows systems administrators to assign specific administrative responsibilities according to organizational needs.

DirectAdmin NDS Plus Pack allows administrators to manage Novell NDS and Windows NT Server from the same console, speeding administrative tasks and synchronizing changes between NDS and Windows NT-based systems. For those moving from NetWare towards Windows 2000, DirectMigrate facilitates the migration of NDS to Windows NT Server by allowing administrators to move users, groups and organizational units from an NDS hierarchy to either a flat Windows NT domain structure or to DirectAdmin's DirectMap. DirectMigrate also provides system interoperability by offering password synchronization for Windows NT Server and NDS.

Entevo offers a downloadable demo of DirectAdmin at its Web site.
