Entevo's DirectManage, the "make-your-NT-domains-look-like-a-directory" software, has added a couple of new tools to the mix.
DirectManage now consists of DirectAdmin 3.0, DirectAdmin NDS Plus Pack, DirectMigrate NDS and two new products: DirectMigrate 2000 and DirectAdmin Exchange Plus Pack.
DirectMigrate 2000 (available at no charge through Entevo's Web site) is a comprehensive migration solution for Windows 2000's Active Directory, the DirectAdmin Exchange Plus Pack 2.0 (which allows single point administration of NT/ Windows 2000) and Microsoft Exchange users.
The DirectManage suite provides enterprises with a comprehensive directory management solution for migration to and management of the Active Directory platform. Also, the DirectManage provides the simultaneous management of other directory services, including Novell NDS, Microsoft Exchange and NT 4.0.
DirectMigrate 2000 gives administrators, for the first time, the ability to fully automate Windows 2000 migrations. Additionally, DirectAdmin 3.0 now provides management of Active Directory objects and enables the creation, update and deletion of Active Directory objects and properties. The DirectManage suite now incorporates the Active Directory Service into a single management console, which should reduce the costs of co-managing network and system resources across multiple directory services.
DirectMigrate 2000 is a wizard-based solution that fully automates Windows 2000 migrations and supports multiple migration scenarios, including:
- NT 4.0 to NT 4.0 for domain consolidations and reconfigurations.
- NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 for selective migration of network resources and reconfiguration of NT domains while migrating to Windows 2000, with modeling and implementation of Active Directory structures based on Entevo's DirectMap virtual directory.
- Windows 2000 to Windows 2000 for the pruning and grafting related to the ongoing maintenance of the Active Directory trees and forests.
DirectMigrate 2000 offers project-driven migrations through the use of profiles. Each profile allows selective migration and configuration at the individual object level, to ensure that enterprise migration requirements are met for user profiles, rights, login scripts and access permissions.
Pre and post-migration cleanup and new policy settings further ensure that the accuracy and completeness of directory data is maintained. Also new in DirectMigrate 2000 is the ability to test migrations to determine the results and impact of various migration scenarios, thereby reducing the time and money spent to execute an actual migration. In addition, DirectMigrate 2000 enables an administrator to stop or rollback activities during an actual migration due to changes in the network.
DirectAdmin 3.0 brings Active Directory management capabilities to the DirectManage suite. Using a Windows Explorer-like interface, users can view the Active Directory hierarchical tree and manage users, groups, Organizational Units, and other resources. For the first time, administrators can manage Active Directory, NT domains, Microsoft Exchange and Novell NDS from a single management console interface. New in DirectAdmin 3.0 is the ability to manage Windows Terminal Server and RAS user attributes and filter the administrator's view, providing access to only those objects which he or she is allowed to manage. Support for the management of printers has been expanded, as has the DirectAdmin Web-based interface, supporting "anywhere" administration. The complete migration capabilities of DirectMigrate 2000 are also packaged with DirectAdmin Version 3.0.
Moving to Active Directory is not going to be a trivial task. Fortunately, there are tools like DirectManage that can make the task much easier and less risky.
