I know we've all been telling you (that's me and every other consultant and analyst worth listening to) that you won't want to move to Windows 2000 server as soon as it ships next February. Nevertheless, you will want to move to it sooner or later, if only as an applications platform in your otherwise NetWare or Unix network.

Today, I just want to let you know that it may be possible to acquire that Windows 2000 server at no additional cost as an upgrade to your Windows NT 4 server.

Specifically, if you acquired NT 4 using Microsoft's Corporate Select or Open License programs, or via the Academic Select and Open License programs, after November 1, 1998, you can upgrade to Windows 2000 server at no charge. This is true even if the term of your agreement has expired.

Now this only applies to Windows 2000 Server. It doesn't cover Win 2000 Professional, Advanced Server or Datacenter Server. But free is such a good price; it's well worth looking into.
