Last week, I mentioned the free electronic book ("The Definitive Guide to Windows 2000 Group Policy", by Darren Mar-Elia and Sean Daily) being offered by FullArmor software. This was the second e-book from RealTime Publishers that has been featured here in Focus on Windows Networking (there was also "The Definitive Guide to Windows 2000 Administration", offered by FastLane Technologies). But wait (as they say on those late night TV infomercials), there's more!
Yes indeed, there's another free e-book (also from RealTime Publishers) being offered to you, the beleaguered network manager. The BindView Corporation (makers of the bv-Control security management software and bv-Admin IT management software) is taking registrations for the soon to be released "Definitive Guide to Windows 2000 Security." The book is written by Paul Cooke, an information security professional with more than 10 years of experience architecting, developing, and deploying security solutions for multiple Fortune 500 companies.
This book goes into the details of what's needed for a responsible IT security system, but its specifically geared towards the Windows 2000 platform. Among the topics covered in the book are:
* Security Objectives, Concepts and the Theory of Protection
* Windows 2000 Architecture and Security Subsystem
* Active Directory Best Practices
* Group Policy
* Authentication
* Access Control
* Auditing
* Public-Key Infrastructure (Two sections devoted entirely to PKI, what it is, how it works, how you set it up in Windows 2000, certificates, keys, secure mail, file encryption, smart cards, IP security, VPNs, and more.)
* Internet Information Server Security
It's useful, informative and free - register now for this important publication. Head over to www.bindview.com/ebook and fill out the form, then take a look at the BindView products.
