Blade server management vendor Amphus unveiled a version of its management software last week that now supports Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) Version 1.5.
ManageSite 2.0 is software that lets IT managers provision, monitor and manage IPMI-compliant rack-mounted, pedestal or blade servers.
IPMI is a standard systems vendors such as Dell and HP use to monitor system hardware, control components and log events. It works with CPUs, embedded management systems and remote management applications that transmit information across serial links or LANs. IPMI-enabled servers let IT managers monitor fans, power supplies and boot status, and they have connectors into the Windows Management Interface Mapper, as well as HP OpenView and Computer Associates’ Unicenter.
ManageSite has a single Web interface from which IT managers can set policies and schedule activities related to workload management, server deployment or performance management. In addition, IT managers can remotely administer servers in distant offices or data centers and provision new servers as necessary.
ManageSite 2.0 also has support for Hitachi, NEXCOM and Tatung blade servers.
IPMI was developed by Dell, HP, Intel and NEC. More than 150 vendors are developing products to its specifications.
ManageSite runs on a Windows-based server and provisions, monitors and manages servers running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, 2003 Server and Red Hat Linux. IT managers can view ManageSite functions from any Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.
It operates in-band or out-of-band and uses Secure Sockets Layer encryption to protect remote communications with managed servers.
ManageSite 2.0 is shipping to OEMs today, but the company doesn’t release OEM pricing.
