The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of industry regulations imposed by the major credit card companies to ensure the safety, security, and integrity of cardholder data. Any business that processes, stores, and transmits cardholder account data must comply with this complex new standard, and must be able to demonstrate that compliance through automated and manual audits of their systems. This white paper looks at the key challenges and requirements of PCI DSS as it relates to Microsoft Windows and Active Directory, and shows you how a third-party software solution can help with PCI compliance.

There are many compelling reasons for virtualizing Windows and Linux applications. Virtualization improves server utilization by allowing you to run multiple workloads on a single physical server. It reduces the number of physical servers you have to maintain, while allowing you to use less physical space and power while still improving scalability. All of these capabilities translate directly into lower costs, less complexity, and greater flexibility in your mixed IT environment. The powerful tape technology can address data security with tape encryption as well as long term data protection.
Discover what disk and tape really cost -- and which solution provides lower total cost of ownership and optimizes energy use for your organization
The Clipper Group explores the truth behind the myths of tape, digging into the misconceptions in the disk vs. tape debate.
Over two thirds of disk-only users look to add tape back into storage infrastructure according to recent survey.
At Storage Networking World last week, a number of vendors, including Sanbolic, Agami Systems, Intel, Robobak and Spectra Logic unveiled bunches of products ranging from clustered file systems, to easy-to-deploy IP storage-area networks to some of the first Fibre Channel over Ethernet products.
Here are the announcements from Sanbolic, Agami Systems, Intel, Robobak and Spectra Logic:
Sanbolic announced that its Melio clustered file system is now available for Windows Server 2008. The Melio file system provides concurrent read/write access from several servers to single volumes of SAN.
IP SAN vendor Agami Systems announced an iSCSI storage appliance – the AIS3006i – which provides 6TB of physical capacity and full RAID protection. The AIS3006i has eight Gigabit Ethernet interfaces to the network and can accommodate as many as 1,024 connections to host computers. Additionally the AIS3006i includes replication, snapshot and thin provisioning capabilities. The AIS3006i is priced starting at $33,995.
Intel too introduced a family of Fibre Channel over Ethernet adapters. The company developed an FCoE initiator (driver in everyone’s parlance) that is bundled with its 10Gig Ethernet adapters for PCI Express. The Intel 10 Gigabit AF DA Dual Port Server Adapter is price at $799.
Robobak announce Version 8 of its managed data protection software for remote and branch offices. Version 8 adds Agentless Continuous Data Protection that lets admins schedule backup operations for the continuous protection of changes. Additionally, Version 8 deploys auto-deployment, which senses computers as they are added to the network and adds them to the assigned backup as well as schedules them for bare metal recovery. Other features include support for Oracle, SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL and DB2, and simultaneous file replication to multiple sites. The software is priced at less than $25,000 per terabyte of data.
Finally and perhaps most importantly, Spectra Logic introduced tape management software that it calls Media Lifecycle Management, which monitors and reports on the status of the tape media, recommending when tape should be replaced prior to failure, based on when thresholds are reached. Media Lifecycle Management works with LTO tape and Spectra’s BlueScale software and monitors the life of the tape. Users can track tape use based on 30 parameters. Barcode information on the tape links it to MLM. MLM is available on all T-Series libraries and is expected to ship his month.
