Storage analyst Deni Connor focuses on storage, application and infrastructure management in this twice-weekly newsletter.
Incipient last week introduced a new service for its Network Storage Platform (iNSP) that lets IT administrators more easily migrate data.
The Incipient Automated Data Migration (iADM) software is intended for large enterprise storage-area networking (SAN) environments where ongoing data migration occurs.
The new software automates data migration in both homogeneous and heterogeneous environments. It allows administrators to automate error-prone and manual processes.
Traditionally, IT managers perform migrations with the help of spreadsheets, scripts and a variety of other processes. Errors made in the staging of a data migration can result in downtime or impact on businesses.
As part of the automation of the data migration process, the iADM software discovers the SAN including all its components – host computers, fabric and storage arrays (Compare Storage products).
Once data is collected on the SAN infrastructure, it is added to a database. A roles-based Web portal is available for IT personnel and departments so they can view the information and historical audit trails.
Workflow templates and an automated task list allow IT to establish processes that they might want to repeat. Actions can be performed automatically, manually or through the use of scripts.
Pricing is based on a per terabyte basis.
