Viridity Software launched their software this week – a package for use by customers to manage power availability and to visualize hidden power, cooling and space capacity.

Inside a green data center

Viridity EnergyCenter monitors, measures and manages power consumption of devices in the data center.

As data centers grow and energy costs mount, it becomes increasingly important to be able to see the energy impact of data center equipment. Until now, there have been few ways of doing that other than placing probes or bots on every piece of equipment in the data center.

EnergyCenter lets customers manage energy consumption at the device level. It monitors the utilization of the device and fits it into the device's business criticality.

Viridity uses patent-pending technology that allows it to accurately measure energy consumption. It profiles this information in a manner that allows customers to plan for the expenditure and placement of new equipment. Power consumption and utilization are calculated dynamically letting customers identify under-utilized equipment or map consumption to business priorities. And finally, reports are available that provide visibility into these capabilities.

Viridity was founded by Michael Rowan, CTO and formerly of Revivio, and Chris Rocca, vice president of engineering and formerly of Motorola and C-Port. It is financially backed by North Bridge Venture Partners and Battery Ventures. The company was founded in 2008. It was named to Network World's Start-ups to Watch in 2010.

The software is available now starting at a yearly subscription rate of $25,000.
