We're knee-deep in the Storage Town Meeting and the most consistent question we've been getting from attendees is "Are there any resources on all the new storage technologies?"

In Denver, a teacher asked us for help with her curriculum. She said it's hard to prepare her IT students for the world of storage when there isn't much available right now.

Our panel of seven experts, including Enterprise Storage Group founder and senior analyst Steve Duplessie, agreed. Members of the panel shrugged their shoulders when asked about full storage curricula.

Instead, they've been offering attendees in each city a list of resources. It's a list of trade organization Web sites that all have a stake in some part of storage. They say that hitting up these sites is the closest you're going to get to a full education in storage right now.

* Fibre Channel Industry Association

The Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA), formed in 1999, boasts more than 150 members worldwide working on its mission of "developing the broadest market for Fibre Channel products." The FCIA is mostly focused on education, forwarding standards and heightening interoperability. To that end, you can search the organization's database to find information about companies and their storage products. The group also offers a comprehensive primer on Fibre Channel and has examples of its implementations.

* The Storage Networking Industry Association
The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA), created in 1997, is a group for system integrators, application vendors, service providers and storage and networking product makers. Like the FCIA, SNIA is focused on education, standards and interoperability. On its site, you'll find information about the group's technical council, which helps to set the road map for storage networking and agendas for working groups. You'll also find forums for discussing such issues as IP storage and the European market. Finally, there are working groups that are honed in on various parts of storage, including backup, policy and security. SNIA also has a list of training opportunities, including an introduction to Fibre Channel and certification coursework from an array of vendors.

* Infiniband Trade Association
As champion of the emerging Infiniband I/O standard, the Infiniband Trade Association is host to an interoperability center, education resources and standards action. On the site, you'll find white papers that explain Infiniband spec and a long list of supporters, including Intel and Compaq. You'll also find a comprehensive glossary that can help you weed through all the terminology.

* Network World Fusion
