The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.

If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.

XP is intended to extend Microsoft's reach from the desktop to the Internet, folding in everything from an entertainment player to an integrated message center. Instead of buying third-party software, Microsoft claims you can get everything you need in one package.

Should you upgrade to XP?

Two experts face off on the topic in our online debate. John Colleran, Microsoft's director of Windows application experience, argues that XP is a "must-upgrade" for those still running Windows 9X and Windows NT Workstation operating systems. But Network World columnist Dave Kearns argues that NT and 2000 users already have what they need.

The company has rolled out its hands-on lab for IT executives. The first course is devoted to implementing and supporting the beta version of Windows XP. The second, which is not available yet, will look at deploying Windows XP Professional.

All-in-one certification

Microsoft is rolling Windows XP into its Microsoft Certified Software Engineer certification. The company's .Net product will also be a part of the MCSE training.

A notice on Microsoft’s site says: "MCSEs who are on the Windows 2000 track will not be required to pass Windows XP Professional/Windows .NET Server exams to retain MCSE certification. The Windows 2000 exams and the Windows XP/Windows .NET Server exams of the MCSE certification are expected to remain available concurrently."
