10.4.5 404 Not Found

The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.

If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.

Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) Test #1, #2 & #3

Covers objectives for the Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) exam, by International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2.
The SSCP program is a comprehensive training and certification program designed to enhance the level of competence, assess individual capabilities, and maintain the skills of network and systems security administrators. Its key elements include adherence to a code of ethics, verifiable experience in the field, comprehensive certification examinations, continuing education/recertification requirements, and a comprehensive core training course.

The objectives for this exam as published on the ISC2 web site are broken down into seven domains.

The Seven SSCP Domains

  • Access Controls

  • Administration

  • Audit and Monitoring

  • Risk, Response and Recovery

  • Cryptography

  • Data Communications

  • Malicious Code/Malware

The details of the domains are published in a white paper available here.
You will also see this information referred to as the Common Body of Knowledge (CBK).

About the SSCP

The SSCP is a vendor-neutral certification program offered by ISC2. This certification is designed for people who plan, design and actually implement security standards and policies across various platforms and operating systems.

The SSCP exam is 125 question exam composed of multiple choice questions concerning the seven domains mentioned above and last 3 hours. Additionally, their is a code of ethics requirements and must have 1 year experience. This is sure to make this certification valuable and avoid 'paper' certified people.

After the initial certification, the SSCP must continue their professional education by achieving 60 CPE credits every 3 years.

About ISC2

ISC2 was created in 1988 by a groups of IT security organizations, (ISC)2 has been providing vendor-neutral certification for security professionals. The first certification offered was CISSP, which started in 1992. The goals of this non-profit organization is have a proven methodology for assessing competency of IT professionals.

What is the goal of SSCP?

Assessing individuals is very difficult, what this organization has done is accomplish this by first defining what tasks the individual should be able to complete. ISC2 has defined the role of an SSCP as such (from their web site):

The Role of Network and Systems Administrators
Network and systems security administrators provide day-to-day support of the security infrastructure through the following activities:

Assist with risk assessments
Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of security policies and services
Test, evaluate, and manage changes in the security environment
Implement access controls, authentication, telecommunications controls (e.g., dial back, encryption)
Monitor and review practices and mechanisms to ensure compliance with established policy
Perform incident handling tasks (e.g., troubleshooting, investigations)
Respond to malicious code (e.g., support eradication, recovery)
Ensure compliance with change management practices
Facilitate emergency response and system recovery
Promote security awareness
Understand security fundamentals and stay current with technologies and best practices
Act as intermediary both within the organization (e.g., users, technical infrastructure, management) and outside the organization (e.g., vendors, consultants, and professional associations)

We believe the SSCP will become one of the true standards which people are judged by in the security arena. Already have established the CISSP for security managers, the SSCP will become the standard for security IT professionals.
