Why bother with Visual Basic 6 certification

With the release of Visual Studio .NET, many people believe that Visual Basic 6 is obsolete. However, Visual Basic 6 is not so obsolete such that Microsoft is supporting it till January 2008 (see what Microsoft says). The MCSD certification track is still in effect and will be for some time. The advantage of this certification will be in conversion, migration, and supporting of legacy systems. 70-176 is the launching platform for Exam 70-175 Designing and Implementing Distributed Applications with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0. 70-175 brings DCOM (Distributed Component Object Module) and MTS (Microsoft Transaction Server) into the mix and clears much of the distortions surrounding MTS.

Specializing in Microsoft solutions has not only given me the fundamental skills, but the tools and the support essential for success. I have been an independent IT consultant for the past five years. I started in the credit industry, coding user interfaces and reverse links for client databases. Prior to that, I had attempted to be a helicopter pilot in the Army, but unfortunately my vision was just outside the limits to enter the school. I then met my wife and quickly figured that my current job was not going to allow me to provide for her and our future children. I moved to the town of Celebration and worked on the pilot Web project for the town's infrastructure. After the company sold off that project to another, I took the opportunity to move back to the east coat. I have always liked the ocean and it is not uncommon to spot me on the waves in an ocean kayak after a hard day. However, it was not very long till this company was bought out and merged with another. After a couple of hostile takeovers, downsizings, resizings, and incisings I figured, it was time to make some changes. I decided to go independent. I had gotten tired of chasing lost stock options, insurance plans, and unpaid overtime. I value the experience and knowledge I have gained, even through those "adrift at sea" projects. I was born in and raised in Titusville, Pennsylvania. Electronics and Programming have always been strong interests for me. I currently hold an MCAD, and an MCSD.NET certification and I enjoy the benefits these certifications have given me.
