Mitchell Ashley talks with interesting people about interesting topics in the world of Microsoft.

Not to be left in the cloud of dust kicked up the Salesforce, Google, Amazon and others, Savvis announced their entrant to woo ISVs onto their SaaS hosting platform and services. Savvis CTO, Bryan Doerr, joins me for part 1 of the podcast to talk about the Savvis offering, and more specifically, what Savvis is doing to differentiate from others already going after ISV SaaS hosting and services. (23:07)
Savvis has taken a page out of the OpSource playbook, the well funded Silicon Valley VC backed company going after the ISV market. Like OpSource, Savvis is wrapping the services ISVs need but don't necessarily want to or can’t take on themselves, services like operations, customer service, billing, etc. Savvis is also promoting a marketplace concept, much like Salesforce.com and Jamcracker. One key difference between the Savvis announced offering and those of Salesforce, Google and Amazon, Savvis is taking a "technology neutral" approach. Bring whatever operating system and software infrastructure to the party you want. That should be especially appealing to the open source and the Microsoft crowd who want to use their own selection of software infrastructure, rather than building on Google's App Engine, Force.com, or Amazon EC2 combination of software infrastructure.
I'll be posting part 2 of the interview in the next few days where Bryan and I delve into some of the economic and IT budget issues we're all facing, and discuss who well hosting provider companies are prepared to help customers and themselves weather the storm.
