Mitchell Ashley talks with interesting people about interesting topics in the world of Microsoft.

I'm happy to welcome a repeat guest on the Converging On Microsoft Podcast, Simon Crosby, CTO Virtualization at Citrix. Simon joins us to talk about a newly announced initiative called Project Independence (you might also want to check out the press release.) Citrix's Project Independence makes some interesting and bold predictions. (29:10)
Simon talks with us about the idea that employees will use their own computing equipment, sometime subsidized by the company, and then securely deliver a virtualized corporate desktop to these devices. Contractors, consultants (and increasingly employees) frequently bring their own equipment into customer sites and their networks. Simon discusses how Project Independence will deliver virtualized desktops that are streamed via the network, operate locally when not connected to the data center, and then synchronize data and apps when reconnected. He also talks about how Citrix is partnering with Intel to deliver a Xen desktop client in end user machines, similar what we've seen happen with server equipment, to "dynamically stream a centrally managed corporate desktop, and all related applications, directly into a secure, isolated client-based virtual machine (VM)."
