DEMOmobile
2004 Launches Intelligent Mobility Products LA JOLLA, Ca. September 10, 2004 DEMOmobile 2004 Executive Producer Chris Shipley kicked off today's opening session with a look at smart phones, introducing products that drive the next generation of cell phones into more useful communications tools. Bellsouth Ltd, Digimarc Corporation, Openwave Systems, and OurPictures Inc. all introduced services that transform today's estimated 55 million camera phones from a mere picture capture device to a highly useful photo-based application platform. "DEMOmobile 2004 demonstrators prove that we're moving to an age of distributed, service-oriented computing where applications and data are accessible to individuals who connect to these services through a variety of secure devices," said Shipley. "Signs of this new paradigm are everywhere at DEMOmobile, from the data services offered to mobile phone users to component hardware and software that enable a range of devices that support this model and even in the entertainment products debuting this week." Also introduced at the morning session were enabling technologies that will be the building blocks of tomorrow's mobile technology devices, such as easier to use PDAs and smart phones.
Microsoft executives took the stage to discuss the company's mobility initiatives, from smart phones to embedded technology in automobiles to data services for connected watches. Shipley grilled Rick Fant, Product Unit Manager, MSN Mobile; Scott Horn, Senior Director of Marketing for the Mobile & Embedded Devices group; and Kelly Kimura, Senior Product Manager for the Mobile & Embedded Devices group, as they discussed Microsoft's strategy to include mobility initiatives across all product lines. The closing day of DEMOmobile ended with a look at the future, with analysts predicting the types of devices and services that will transform the manner in which consumers and professionals interact with technology in this increasingly technology-dependent world. Additionally, moderator John Patrick, President of Attitude LLC, probed into the next steps for the wireless industry, obtaining insights and direction from QUALCOMM, Sequoia Capital, Techdirt, Inc., and Sun Microsystems executives. "The wireless infrastructure is in place. Great applications are coming to market to build on this infrastructure," concluded Shipley. A wide range of mobile devices appeal to vast and divergent needs and interests. The future of mobility belongs to those who can best innovate new and useful services that deliver strong value and enhance individuals' work and personal lives." The DEMOmobile
program ended with the presentation of DEMOgod awards, given to
