Network World Announced Three Finalists And Grand Prize Winner Of Renovator Award
PPL Corporation Takes Home Grand Prize For Its Holistic Network IT Roadmap

May 4, 2005 - Southborough, MA - Network World, the leading Network IT media company, announced the winner of its Renovator of the Year award last night in Las Vegas at a gala event that occurred the week of the industry's key conference, Interop (May 3-5). Seven judges selected PPL Corporation (NYSE:PPL), a Fortune 500 multi-national energy company based in Allentown, Pennsylvania as the grand prize winner for its ability to architect and deliver a higher bandwidth, higher quality of service network to its 11,000 end devices at 100 locations around the U.S.

This first award of its kind required entrants to submit an extensive application describing how their organization utilized technology to grow their enterprises and add value to their company. Often going unrecognized, IT organizations can have a positive effect on the bottom line and greatly enhance the value of the company itself. The 'Renie' winner, PPL Corporation delivered a network with higher speeds, secure access for business partners, higher levels of availability and a cost savings of 10-15 percent.

"Business needs change constantly, often requiring new technology to be implemented while maintaining high quality of service standards," said John Dix, editor in chief, Network World. "PPL won Renovator of the Year for developing a roadmap that allows them to maintain reliability while delivering a network-wide renovation along with measurable, positive business impact and payback."

Other Renovator finalists include PSOMAS, a civil engineering firm from Costa Mesa, California, and Saugus Union School District of Stanford, California. PSOMAS, was recognized for its design of an architecture that facilitated work-sharing among staff members involved in complex engineering projects that resulted in a streamlining of operations and reduced cost as well as the ability to leverage staff across larger projects. Saugus Union School District, the other runner up, improved the effectiveness of educators by providing a centralized multimedia repository and access that can be shared among the eleven schools in the district.
