| ABSTRACT: |
This study looks at the trends in broadband services in Malaysia in 2003. The
purpose of this study is to provide a brief situation overview of broadband
access in the region at year-end 2002, and where IDC sees the market heading in
2003. This study is a part of IDC Malaysia's ongoing communications research.
"In 2002, saw there was the reduction of access tariffs as part of the service
provider's strategy to stimulate subscriber numbers as well as helping to make
broadband a more affordable service. The strategy has worked well and in 2003,
IDC expects to see further price drops as well as the bundling of VAS to
further encourage the business segments to sign up for the service,." sSays
Jian Sern Loo, Enterprise Networks and Telco Analyst, IDC Malaysia. "Further,
the continued rollout of network coverage in developing markets is expanding
the base of potential subscribers, fuelling the migration of dialup subscribers
to broadband."
