Although we tried to be as comprehensive as possible with this review, some vendors didn't make it into our test lab. Microsoft's new firewall, Internet Security & Acceleration Server 2000, was released in the middle of testing, but we found that certain configuration choices Microsoft made kept it from being tested along side the other firewalls.
Elron Software's CommandView Firewall had a technical problem we could not resolve in time to meet deadlines even with the help of the company's technical support. Basically the product could not pass our intranet (LAN-to-LAN) test. We aborted testing because the product doesn't fit the bill for our definition of an enterprise firewall.
Barricade, a relative unknown from Estonian software firm, Cybernetica, also came our way for evaluation. After installing and testing Barricade on our servers, we decided it didn't represent a viable company choice when compared to the other products in our review. Although Barricade had some interesting features, it wouldn't have been an apples-to-apples comparison.
