Why IT?

Complexity, cost and commotion (the disruption of "business as usual" workflows) are significant obstacles for anyone assigned the task of making enterprise video searchable.
Putting a small or comprehensive video-asset logging, searching and management system in place is definitely a project that IT should be involved in. Although IT technicians don't need to learn video production, the products we tested must be hosted on Windows NT or Solaris servers on the enterprise network. Properly configured, these systems will create streaming-ready files that need to be posted to appropriate enterprise video servers or content delivery networks for users to access. Metadata must be published to IT-administered database servers that the proprietary video asset search server can then find and query, and the results returned to the user's browser via an Active Server page.
