Editor’s note: This is a summary of our testing of this product, for a full rundown of how it fared in our testing across 10 UTM categories, please see our full coverage.
Check Point’s UTM-1 family of hardware appliances combine small, 1U devices, with Check Point’s own Secure Platform operating system, VPN-1 firewall, and some additional management tools not found in the version of Secure Platform running on third-party hardware.
The UTM-1 2050 we tested has four 10/100/1000 and four 10/100 Ethernet ports. The UTM-1 2050 can be managed without a separate SmartCenter management server, but for best performance, most enterprises would choose to use a separate server. We have previously tested the UTM-1 450 as a small-to-medium enterprise system and found that Check Point gives some of its own partners a serious run for the money in that market.
With the UTM-1 2050 and an enterprise set of requirements, the difference between Secure Platform and the more full-featured enterprise platform from Nokia was pretty obvious. Features such as dynamic routing, security application management, and IPv6 support are all fairly rough on the UTM-1 2050.
Nevertheless, the UTM-1 2050 — which bears an astonishing resemblance to one of Crossbeam’s low-end C-series systems — has slick integration of the operating system and firewall that make it easier to deploy in simple environments, such as ones that don’t employ dynamic routing. The UTM-1 2050 is easy to install, and if you don’t care about IPv6 or dynamic routing, you’ll find this a simple way to get Check Point VPN-1 up and running quickly.
I also lost internet access, and resorted to "uninstall KB951748 & KB951978". Access returned. Tried...- Anonymous
