More views on cloud computing security

I recently had the opportunity to speak with the two old-line purveyors of privileged user management software (also called Privileged Identity Management and Privileged Password Management) -- Cyber-Ark and e-DMZ Security. In separate phone conversations we covered most of the two companies' offerings and today we'll take a look at how they feel about cloud computing and authentication.

Pentax K2000 Digital SLR Camera

Priced affordably at $450 including an 18-55mm kit lens, $600 with 18-55mm and 50-200mm kit lenses, or $680 in a limited-edition white body with an 18-55mm kit lens (all as of 8/26/09), the 10.2-megapixel Pentax K2000 may tempt quite a few people to jump into the digital SLR pool. Though the supposed niche for the K2000 consists of consumers new to the DSLR market, the camera's compatibility with previously issued lenses could increase the K2000's appeal to Pentax enthusiasts of all stripes.

The 12-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1 ($1500 kit with a stabilized 14-140mm Micro Four Thirds lens as of 8/20/2009) is a unique digital camera that supports interchangeable lenses. Although it looks like a DSLR, the Micro Four Thirds system it uses means that it isn't (more on that here). It's available in gold, black, and red.

New security standard MashSSL builds application trust

Application mashups are gaining traction in the enterprise. There's no doubt that productivity can be enhanced when new functionality can be delivered quickly and conveniently by combining information from multiple sources. However, there's a trade-off in application security. Mashups hold the potential to introduce a new network attack vector. A proposed new standard called MashSSL could eliminate the security concerns, making enterprise mashups as secure as any SSL transaction.
