RE: 10 Ways to Slash Your IT Department's Electric BillBy Anonymous on December 11, 2007, 1:49 pmI don't see how this applies to the article topic. How does buying carbon credits save electricity?
10By clarkntl on November 13, 2009, 1:35 pmMost people can look back over the years and identify a time and place at which their lives changed significantly. Whether by accident or design, these are the moments when, because of a readiness within us and a network with events occurring around us, we are forced to seriously reappraise ourselves and the conditions under which we live and to make certain choices that will affect the rest of our lives.

Automating PC Shut-downBy Anonymous on February 21, 2008, 10:17 amSurvey data from my client, software vendor 1E, has proven a simple but effective way to reduce PC power consumption. Power management software automates and centralizes the shut-down/wake-up process for networked PCs, which can save the average company a conservative $165,000 per year in utility costs. Individual users can defer shut-down if they're still working at the scheduled shut-down time. (full report available at http://1e.com/energycampaign/downloads/1E%20Energy%20Report%20US.pdf)
Slash Your IT Departments Electric BillBy Anonymous on February 11, 2008, 11:30 amI fail to see how screensavers save any electricity. My experience with Energy Star workstations shows that more two-thirds of the power consumption is attributable to the monitor. These can be from 35W for LCD and 80W for CRT. The key is to discourage decorative screensavers and to set the power options so the monitor trips into standby after, say, 10 minutes of workstation idle time.
